October 14th, 2011 – Today the Jordanian Open Source Association published an article alleging that some Palestinian open source communities on Facebook were “stupidly copying” their content and articles (link).  The Palestinian Open Source Community (POSC) would like to point out the following:

• None of these Facebook pages are related in anyway to the POSC
• The POSC’s goal is to raise the awareness of software openness knowledge by conducting events in Universities across Palestine
• The POSC is a member driven, member run organization

We wish to reiterate that we have absolutely nothing to do with these pages in any way.

Richard M. Stallman (“RMS”), founder of the Free Software Foundation and the GNU Project, confirmed his visit to Palestine after receiving an invitation from the free software and open source communities in Palestine.

Stallman’s visit to Israeli-occupied Palestine means a lot to Palestinian techies, free software advocates, and supporters of general freedoms around the world. Stallman calls for the freedom and right to disseminate knowledge for the advancement of people and the humankind progress, within a unique relation between software and general freedoms, which became an independent approach that is widely applied in computer science, and spread to non-technical domains.

أكد ريتشارد ستالمان والناشط في مجال الحريّات و مؤسس حركة البرمجيات الحرّة زيارته إلى فلسطين في تموز المقبل بعد دعوة تلقاها من مجتمعات البرمجيات الحرّة والمصادر المفتوحة في فلسطين.

هذه الزيارة الخاصة تعني الكثير لمجتمع التقنيين في فلسطين ومحبي البرمجيات الحرّة وأنصارها وغيرهم من مناصري الحريات العامة في العالم، فحركة البرمجيات الحرّة هي حركة تسعى لضمان حريات أساسية أربع لمستخدمي البرمجيات: حرية تشغيل البرمجيات، حرية دراستها وتطويرها، ونسخها، وتنادي بحق نشر المعرفة لرقي الشعوب وتقدم البشرية ضمن علاقة فريدة بين البرمجيات والحرية، وهي مبادرة أثرت بشكل كبير على تغيّر فلسفة بناء المعرفة و نشرها.

ضيوف ورشة العمل

عقدت مبادرة مجتمع المصدر المفتوح  ورشة عمل في جامعة القدس أبو ديس – كلية العلوم والتكنولوجيا يوم أمس ١١ ديسمبر ٢٠١٠ ، إشتملت فقراتها على مواضيع مميزة  ومتنوعة ، فقد افتتح الدكتور رائد الزغل
رئيس دائرة علم الحاسوب في الجامعة الورشة وقدمت فيما بعد الدكتورة صفاء ناصر الدين كلمة افتتاحية ممثلة لمجتمع المصدر المفتوح الفلسطيني لخصت بها الأهداف و الفئات المستهدفة من هذه الورشة، ودعت فيها طلبة الجامعات لإنشاء مجتمعات مفتوحة المصدر في جامعاتهم لنشر المعرفة و تشاركها فيما بين تلك المجتمعات.
